Product concept
Worried about global warming?
If enough people adopt energy-saving measures, such as using renewables to lessen our dependency on fossil fuels, the cumulative impact would be meaningful.
Want to reduce your carbon footprint by using renewable energy? Want to become your own electricity generator? Our PV Microgeneration system could be ideal.
Smart Solar is offering a range of PV systems, including roof-mounted systems and even a ground-mounted 1.2kW grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) system. The electricity generated by your solar array can be either used in your own home or sold on to electricity providers.
The PV system generates DC current which is converted to AC current and then fed back into the house’s electrical network.
When there is demand for energy in the house, the solar generated energy is used to provide power in the house. If there is little or no electrical energy requirement, the surplus energy is exported and sold to an electricity provider at a minimum agreed rate of 3p per kWh.
The amount of energy generated by the solar array will vary according to the level of sunlight and time of year. In the summer months the system will typically generate five times the power generated during winter.
The solar array should be located in a south facing location with no shading from buildings, walls, trees etc, and the solar panels will be angled on the frame to optimise performance.
One easy option we are supplying is designed to be ground mounted and is therefore both cheaper and easier to install than a roof-mounted system, and provides more flexibility in terms of where it can be located. However most people prefer a roof mounted system which can be put on the roof of your house, garage or outbuilding – please click here for further details
The system can be easily and quickly installed by the householder themselves, with final checking and connection to the AC power supply carried out by our certified installer. We can provide a complete installation service at extra cost. Maintenance for the system once installed is minimal.
All equipment supplied is certified and final connection is carried out by our certified installer, so that customers can qualify for the feed-in tariff.
We also supply an energy monitor to show how much electricity is being consumed, including the output from your PV array. A sensor is clipped around your electricity supply and a battery-powered transmitter beams information to your energy monitor. The energy monitor can also be connected to your PC so you can record ongoing performance.
The electricity generated by your solar array can be either used in your own home or sold on to electricity providers. The power of the system is guaranteed for 20 years, and should have an operational life of at least 30 years. The inverter is guaranteed for five years.
The introduction of feed-in tariffs from April 2010 adds significantly to the financial appeal of a PV system, with a fixed life of 25 years, starting at 41.3p for all solar power actually generated by the system.
Access our simple payback calculator to see how the payback period could change depending on current and projected electricity prices, based on the yield of your system.
Please note: our solar systems are for generating electricity, not for creating hot water. These are called thermal systems, but are not currently supplied by Smart Solar.
