An Indian summer on offer for solar microgeneration

Experts encourage homeowners to take advantage of the closing window of opportunity to benefit from dual solar subsidies.

Homeowners must act now to take advantage of a closing window of opportunity for solar microgeneration. This is according to Jonathan Stobart from Smart Solar, who’s encouraging the British public to take advantage of the crossover between government legislation that could potentially save them £thousands.

The government’s recent energy bill announced the implementation of feed-in tariffs (renamed as the clean energy cashback scheme), which are set to be implemented from April 2010. Under the scheme people will be rewarded  financially for the renewable energy that they produce and these incentives will come to replace the current capital grants subsidies that are offered by the government.

So, before next spring homeowners are in a unique position to enjoy both benefits; drastically accelerating the payback period of their solar PV systems.

Jonathan Stobart, Managing Director of Smart Solar recognises that currently homeowners are well positioned to make the most of this opening. He said:

“Whilst many people look to solar microgeneration with some sense of environmental consciousness, there is also a compelling financial argument. Currently there is a unique window of opportunity for Britain’s homeowners and those who take advantage before 2010 will have the double benefit of receiving capital grant money as well as almost certainly benefiting from the generous feed-in tariffs which will be introduced from April 2010.

Homeowners that take advantage of this window of opportunity will drastically reduce the payback period of their system saving them £thousands in the process.”
